Baxter Institute Of Biblical & Cultural Studies
James Moody
Check out our renewed BLOG effort! "Some have expressed concern about recent publicity describing crime and violence in Honduras. It is true that the United States recalled the Peace Corps, but the most recent news is that the United States is considering the return to Honduras of 158 Peace Corps volunteers. The purpose of this announcement is to assure those planning to take groups to Baxter Institute in 2012 that they should continue with their plans. We have heard a rumor that Baxter Institute has advised people not to bring their groups to Honduras. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Baxter Institute is a safe community and is protected by guards 24 hours a day. We have had no problems of violence on our campus nor instances of violence against groups from the USA working in our city and surrounding areas. We encourage group leaders to continue their plans to work at Baxter Institute as usual. For those who do not wish to leave the campus, we will have projects for groups to do on the campus itself. They may very well be safer on the Baxter campus than they would be in certain neighborhoods in the United States. While there is no way to guarantee total safety anywhere in the world, there are certain priniciples to remember wherever a person may be: first, follow the directions given by your group leader and by the people in Honduras who are serving as hosts; second, always travel in a group of three or four people; third, stay within areas where local people have said you are safe and secure; fourth, remember that even evil people will normally not harm people who are known to be helping the needy; and fourth, always ask for God's guidance and protection just as Paul did when he was reaching out to the lost. We have approximately 100 people living and or working on the Baxter campus. By the grace of God, we believe you will be safe while working with us to reach Hondurans with the Good News of Jesus." --- Yours in Christ, Howard W.
